ThomsonFly 757 bird strike & flames captured on video
This incident was video recorded by Simon Lowe. 233 people where on board this jet bound for Lanzarote. The number 2 engine sucks in one bird (a crow or corvid) as the plane rotates off the runway. T.V. news reports of two herons being sucked in are wrong. Congratulations to the crew and air-traffic controllers for the calm and professional way they dealt with the situation. As the current World Barista Champion, Klaus Thomsen, certainly draws a crowd with his knowledge, technique and ability to make the perfect cup of coffee. Watch in particular his 'Stockfleth' technique of coffee distribution and relatively low dosing level (by Australian standards). Bear in mind Klaus jumped straight on this machine 'cold' so every shot wasn't up to his usual impeccable standards.

Rolf Thomsen - Kaptlt. U-1202 Cap-1
Rolf Thomsen began his naval career in April 1936. After six months on a minesweeper he transferred to the Luftwaffe in October 1938 and received training as a naval aviator. For more than three years he served in several air squadrons, including Kampfgeschwader 26, the only air group in the Luftwaffe which was equipped with air torpedoes. In April 1943 Thomsen left the Luftwaffe and undertook the usual training to become a U-boat commander.
